    Question

I'll be wrapping my headers this year (yeah, I know it can kill the headers, but mine are stainless and seem to be made really well, and if they break, it's an excuse to get a Kami 4-1) and want to get a wrap kit that is easy to put onto 4-2-1 headers w/o removing them.

I will have the radiator out at that point in time, so I'll have some room, but I'm hoping some people out there can point me towards or away from specific brands.

    Thanks,

Yea, i believe header wrap killed my GREDDY 4-2-1.

However, i used the same approach as HOLDEN. My GREDDY blew a hole in the #4 meets into #1........so i bought the KAZI 4-1 header....

I dont see how you will wrap the header, and do a DECENT JOB of it, without removal of the header.....

I'd rather not remove it in case it has warped and will not re-install properly.

Wrap hurts headers by increasing their temperature and speeding up the ageing process of the headers. It doesn't do anything bad to the motor.

I've seen ads for ones that are like socks with a slit running the length of them. They are advertised as meant for already installed headers. Anyone tried these?

My hold header was wrapped. I first did it on the car witch was a big pain in the ass. I used 2in wrap that you can get just about any where. I got mine from Summit. It is way easier to do it off the car. You should have no problem taking your header off and doing it. Then putting it back on using the same gaskets. They will reseal and are reusable. They also sell metal ties to secure it. But they don't work so well. A performance shop in my town said to use small hose clamps on each header tube. I did and it worked great and looked pretty good too. Good luck.

2" DEI fiberglass header wrap is what I used for my DC Sports 4-2-1 header. IF you wrap it properly you will actually decrease the temperatures and not affect the header in any way... If you wrap more than 1/4" overlap then you're doing it wrong. And 2 1/2" stainless steel hose clamps worked perfect. After they were wrapped I then sprayed the 2 pieces with DEI HT silicone coating (aluminum one) to help protect and bond the wrap. After you install the header they will smoke for a while, so it would be a good idea to let the car warmup for at least 15 minutes. It took me a good 30-50 minutes of Interstate Higway driving to actually get the headers not to smoke anymore (big headache afterwards, even though I had all windows down and fan off... frown )

P.S. There is NO way to properly wrap a header while it is in the car. You have to have a large enough area (and preferably one other person) to do it right.

And here's a link to the DEI website:
